Currently, there is no viewer available from Microsoft to view .mdi files in Office 2010. To open an .mdi file, either use a third-party converter or convert the file to the .tiff format and then view the file in MODI from Office 2003 or from the 2007 Office System.

Windows Photo Viewer isn't part of Windows 10, but if you upgraded from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, you might still have it. To check, press and hold (or right-click) a photo in File Explorer, and select Open with. If Windows Photo Viewer isn't in the list, you cannot install it on Windows 10.

You use the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) driver to scan an image and to store the image as a Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) file on the computer. You try to open the file by using a standard third-party imaging application. In this scenario, the file cannot be opened correctly. Cause.

If you try to open a PDF, XPS, or TIFF file, it usually opens in Reader automatically. If that doesn't happen, you can set Reader as the default app for those types of files. (We'll show you how to do that in the next section.)

Select Start > Settings > Apps > Default apps. To change the default app, you can do either of the following: Set a default for a file type or link type. In the search bar, enter the file type or link type you want, then select it from the list of results. You can choose which app can open that file or link type. Set defaults for applications.
